about

New Enfranchised Noises was born out of a discussion about tools as they relate to the craft of music: namely, whether the equipment dictates the final result or vice versa, particularly within the realms of non-standard instrumentation and arrangement. In other words, if you give someone a synthesizer, would they suddenly become Pink Floyd -- or Merzbow -- and so on.

To that end, each musician was instructed to submit one or two samples to a common pool, then craft a piece of sound using only the samples contributed. When the dust settled, contributions came in from Norway, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, and Germany.

Thanks to everyone who participated and particular thanks to Tom Dalton of Fuzzhugger Effects, without whom this project would have never come to pass.
